 Hi to All,
Whenever I veiw the ActiveX controls under properties /dependency tab it says damaged ,not just on one or two ,on all of them ,however the application that the ActiveX is connected to ,for instance Windows Update I have no problem with when I run the app. I've notice that in my system information utility under Internet Explorer /List of Objects again these are listed as damaged, they are also listed in Windows Explorer under "downloaded program files" .Can anyone tell me how to correct this problem without making the situation even worst ,I did not want to just go ahead and delete these ActiveX controls without knowing how or where to replace them ? Any advice greatly appreciated !
                        Thanks Gumba Nick

Running XPsp2.  Same deal with me on the ActiveX properties view.  I'm thinking this is a false issue, but I've wondered about this same as you.  Maybe someone can clarify it for us.

This is a bug (at least I don't think it's by design) due to IE 7 (has been in all the betas and the final). The activeX controls should be OK, unless their icon shows an excalmation mark. In any case, if you delete them, they can be reinstalled next time you visit the site they came from.

I checked mine - all OK  IE7, yes safe to remove and you will be promted to reinstall as you need them.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I never had that problem with IE 6 on Windows XP, I only found it after installing the first IE 7 beta and versions since, which is why I assumed it was an IE 7 issue.

However I'm not losing any sleep over it :-).

I dont believe this is a I.E. 7.0 issuse because I checked on my other PC a P3 750MHz running Windows Me with I.E.ver. 6.0 and same thing all ActiveX controls reported as damaged ? I do believe its some kind of bug ,however the version of I.E. is not the cause , its has me confused ,as stated above "if it ain't broke dont fix it" ! I always find that a hard thing to do ,it goes against my nature and natural interest of how things work ,yet it is sound advice becasue I've done driver updates on hardware that was running very well only to have the update mess the thing completely up !
Take Care Gumba Nick

No you do not have to but eventually you may want to from a security standpoint.
Everything will function as usual with IE6, it is less secure web browsing though..

Here is a site with good advice for installing IE7, nevemind the Vista plastered all over the site, the advice is good for any windows OS to upgrade to 7

Hello to All ,
Well I went against the if it aint broke dont fix it and deleted all of the activex controls marked as damaged ,which included the Windows Update site ! Now I cant even access the update site because it says missing activex and every attempt at downloading it goes unanswered ,validation etc none of the methods Microsoft insructs you to follow work. I even tried a system restore to yesterday and that hasd me getting the ActiveX Control listed again in downloaded progam files in Windows Explorer and now it even says damaged in that folder where as B/4 it only said that when I looked at te dependency tab in the controls properties ?  The Windows Update site will not work ,flash player will not work , bad move on my part ,any suggestions ?  I would appreciate some help with this !
           Thank You to All ,

Hi to All,
After I booted up my PC the next day and went to the Windows Update site again ,this time it worked .Perhaps tthe registry fixed what ever was preventing the ActiveX control from letting the update site function correctly ? However Flash player still stalls on me and it wont install reports ver9 already installed ? My Norton AntiVirus Update site works downloads all updates with no problem ,some work others do not ,dont ask me why ,I have no idea ,however still on a dial up ISP makes reinstalling large downloads a real pain ,usally I get disconnected B/4 they complete ,if anyone can recomend a freeware download manager that does not come with alot of junk attached to it ,a lnk would be greatly appreciated !
                                              Thanks Nick the Gumba
