Sometimes reinstalling the app solves this.

Take a look in the registry.

Click Start, Run and type
regedit
OK

Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\SOFTWARE
\Microsoft
\Windows
\CurrentVersion
\Uninstall
\Program Name

In the right-pane, do the following:
Double-click NoRemove (REG_DWORD) and set it to 0

Double-click NoModify   (REG_DWORD) and set it to 0

If NoRemove is set to 1, the Remove button will be unavailable
If NoModify    is set to 1, the Change button will be unavailable

Tomrom - that's my problem.  Can't reinstall the app as the app halts with "version exists must be removed".  The apps I am talking about display on the add/remove program panel but they are not in the regedit directory under the .../..../....uninstall.  All apps listed in that key value have the remove option in the add/remove panel!

No problem,I've done that myself many times. :smileyhappy:

Thanks for the assistance.  Tried Add/Remove Pro - only lists the programs that are listed in the regedit values under ......\......\.uninstall !!  Rats!

"Some programs don't require an uninstaller - all you need do is delete them (I'll show you how to do that for most).

Some programs should have an uninstall option and don't. That's where things can get messy."

You can try add remove pro.

Do you have admin rights?

I'm not sure but you might be able to remove programs in add/remove via the command prompt.

Okay, I'll bite - how do I remove the programs through the command line.  I have Admin authorities.

Using the command prompt will work, but you can also delete the folders for the app's.

What are the programs?

I'm out of ideas, one last thought.

Start>run> regsvr32 appwiz.cpl

Tomron - thanks for all the tips.  I thought there was a special way through the command prompt to clear an installed program.  I've been around MS-DOS since it's inception, I just didn't want to delete files/folders because of the residue in the registry.  I did run regsvr32 sucessfully but it didn't help. I am going to try and create an entry in the \....\....\uninstall registry entry for the program and see if that helps.  If not, I will just delete the program folders (saving a copy first).  By the way, I renamed the program folder but the reinstall still said there was a prior version installed which led me to believe I will have an issue with the registry to deal with.   . i
