Add/Remove Programs not working
The add/remove programs is not working on my Dimension 4500, P4 2.53Ghz, WinXP Home SP2. Tried running appwiz.cpl to no avail. The "Program Access and Defaults" wont respond either but I think it runs off the same appwiz prog.
I have installed an uninstaller which works but this is really bugging me. Got no help from Dell unless I pay for their sub service.
When the Control Panel loads up and the icons all change to each individual spec, the "Add/Remove just stays as the default icon (if that has anything to do with the problem).
I checked on one members posting which was to run "cmd" and then regsvr32 appwiz.cpl. Tried that but got the response "Load Library (appwiz.cpl) failed - Invalid access to memory location"
You could spend most of your life trying to find answers to such problems so if anyone can suggest an answer, perhaps I can live a bit longer!!

It sounds as though the appwiz.cpl file is corrupted. See if replacing it will correct the problem. Go to Start|Run, enter sfc /scannow and click OK. System File Checker will replace any system files which are corrupted or missing. You may be prompted to insert your Windows XP reinstallation CD. (Note that there is a space between sfc and /.)
