Administrator Password Help

I apologize if this one has been answered somewhere else, but I'm at a loss.  I was upgrading to XP SP3 last night and due to an power outage.  This might not seem like a big problem, but in the process it erased a couple of files I need to boot the computer.  I tried the "r" command with the XP install CD, but it's asking for the "administrator password".  I never password protected this computer so I assumed hitting "enter" would be sufficient, but I get the same message again.  Where do I get the password?  Safe mode doesn't work since I'm booting from the CD
