Adobe Flash Player 9 Problems

Question

I have IE 7 and a DELL XPS m1210 with Windows XP Pro.   I've been trying to resolve my Flash Player problem for several days now. Everything was working perfectly, until a day or so ago when I tried to view a video on YouTube. An error message popped up stating: 'Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.' So, I tried downloading the latest Flash player. That didn't work.   I then proceeded on a long journey to attempt to resolve this issue. (I followed instructions on how to make sure my Java, ActiveX, and Internet Security options were set to the right settings. I then uninstalled and reinstalled Flash about 6 times using the recommended uninstaller from Adobe. I repeated all these steps continuously, but nothing worked. I have also tried downloading the Flash Player from other downloading sites besides Adobe. I even checked to see if it was a registry problem - which I don't think it is.) I've been searching through constant forums and message boards hoping to find some solution, but I'm at a loss. Before I started trying to 'fix' the problem I was able to view some videos, but now no Flash Player videos work at all. I feel like I've just aggravated the issue. On my last attempt at reinstalling Flash Player, I got an error message on Adobe website. It's depressing.   I'm at a loss for what to do, so I was hoping anyone is this forum might be able to offer some sort of advice. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post such a request (I'm new to this forum), but I've tried contacting Adobe and have yet to hear back from them (of course). If no one has any suggestions for how to fix this problem, are there such things as tech support centers where  I could bring my computer? Maybe I would get better results if I just paid someone to fix this for me  - it would be worth it after all the trouble I've had with Flash Player!   Thank you for any helpful comments or suggestions.

Thank you for your reply, I appreciate your help! I did try that website, and the tips Adobe gives didn't work for me. However, I eventually found a solution (after a couple more hours of searching!) on Adobe's forums. But I just wanted to thank you for your help!   -LTMM

But more specifically, what helped me (and what I used as a last resort when nothing else worked) were these steps, more or less:

1. Download the flash uninstaller from Here. (from the Adobe website)

2. Uninstall flash and then restart your computer.

3. Then, go to "Run" on your start menu and type in regedit.exe (be careful, this is sensitive territory - I assume no responsibility for anything you mess up! That's why I used this as a last resort!)

4. Go to the file HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Macromedia\FlashPlayer\SafeVersions
5. Just delete the string value for Flash Player 9 on the right side of th safe versions folder (I think it's just labeled 9).

6. You might want to restart your computer again.

7. Download Flash Player from the Adobe website - it should download this time!

8. I still had problems with Youtube, even after I was able to finally download Flash Player. This is an error on Youtube's website - you can temporarily fix it (until Youtube does!) by turning off your Ad and Pop-up blocking software.

Again, proceed with caution! This worked for me, but be careful when fooling with sensitive computer material and internet security!

Unfortunately, LMTT's solution didn't work on my computer. For anyone in the same boat, try this obscure fix from Adobe: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=fb1634cb After days of trying to download Flash Player 9, this finally worked for me.

The first step is to install SubInACL.exe from Microsoft. DON'T MISS THE SECOND STEP! You need to run Adobe's reset_minimal file from the same location as SubInACL (C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\).

I'd almost given up any hope for success, but after running the two files, I was able to download Flash Player 9 with IE 7.

I  know this was posted a long time ago, but did you ever get this issue solved, I am having the same problem and have done everything you have done, hoping you found a simple solution that you could pass on.
