I'm not sure this is even the right forum, but my problem is connected with Adobe Reader 7.0.7. If anyone could point me towards the correct forum, it would be greatly appreciated.
Anyway..on to my problem. I have a Dimension E310 (got it a couple of weeks ago, so I'm a newbie...sort of) and a Dell Photoprinter 720. I started out with Adobe Reader 6.0, then upgraded to the 7.0.7. My problem is this: I can save and open files in Adobe, but the second I go to print them, I get an error message that says "Adobe had encountered an unknown problem and needs to close." Every time I try to print I get that message. What is wrong? I can print other things just fine? But I couldn't (can't) print with either version of Adobe Reader. Is there some explanation as to why my printer and Adobe seem at odds with each other?
With a document open in Adobe reader (I have 7.07), what happens if you click
File menu, Print setup: does a window open in which you can set the printer?
Or if you click File menu, Print?
Or if you click the print icon in the toolbar?
In Adobe, Edit menu, preferences, general, do you have 'enable print preview' checked or unchecked? Does the problem persist if you change that setting?
It would also be useful to know what version of Windows, what printer, how is the printer connected.

YOU SAID:
"With a document open in Adobe reader (I have 7.07), what happens if you click

"Or if you click File menu, Print?"
"Or if you click the print icon in the toolbar?"
"In Adobe, Edit menu, preferences, general, do you have 'enable print preview' checked or unchecked? Does the problem persist if you change that setting?"

Hello sir. I checked out your stats--GREAT! Anyway, I wanted to ask you if you might be able to help
me with an issue. I ordered concert ticket online and had it sent to my email address. It says I must
have Adobe 4.0
or higher in order to be able to print it out. So I clicked on the provided link and
obtainded version 7. Well, I can't get the thing to print--I've been trying for HOURS now! (to no avail).
I read what you said to that other person, and I tried everything you suggested (AGAIN!) yet still no luck.
Might you have suggestion(s) for me to try. Or do I need to just get the original DELL version 6 instead, and try that? Or what?
Please help me in any way you can. Hey, congrats on being such the esteemed contributor...
Generally speaking, versions of Adobe reader are backward compatible, so version 7.07 should be able to open and print files made with earlier versions of Acrobat or other software that can generate pdf files. I doubt that getting an earlier version of Acrobat reader would of itself solve your problem. New versions of Acrobat reader mainly introduce new features, so sometimes files made with a later version can't be opened properly with earlier versions (hence the warning that you require v 4 or higher)
I think the first thing to check is whether you can print any other .pdf file. If you can, it will tell you that the one you got through your email is somehow corrupted. In that case, I think the only thing you can do is to contact whomever you got it from.
If you can't print any pdf file then it is your installation or setup that is faulty. In that case, you should first go through the preferences in Adobe reader very carefully to check that the settings are correct. Or you could try uninstalling it, do a fresh download and reinstall it. Generally, I find it's best to download the file to disk and install it off line, rather than letting it be installed over the internet.
Next also double check that your printer is set up properly and the you have no problems printing from other apps.
If you don't have another .pdf file to test with (search your PC), then there are many sites where you could download one, just to test. For example there is one on this site, that might also be relevant:
Hope you solve your problem before the concert date :-)
PS I found this troubleshooting guide in the Acrobat knowledge base. Although it says it's for Mac rather than Windows, many of the steps are applicable.
JRosenfeld, Thank You Very Much. I was able, peryourhelpfulinstructions, to PRINT MY CONCERT TICKET. I now have SIX copies on hand. (So that I don't have to go through this again! Hopefully.)
Again, thanks. It was/is for the BOB DYLAN SHOW coming to Asheville, NC on May 6th! It cost me SEVENTY BUCKS! I'm sure it'll be worth it!

I hope you it. Personally I liked Bob Dylan best in his protest song days.
