adobe reader and acorbat elements

i Just got a new insporon 6000 this month, January of 2006. Paid the extra $40 for elements. they have 6.0 installed on my machine. 7.0 has been out for over a year. why would they put year old software on a computer? When i go to adobe.com and download the newer versions it will not let me install acorbat elements. it says the upgrade patch cannot be installed by the windows installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may be a a different version of the program. verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch. well I do have acrobat elements 6.0. trying to intall 7.0 patch. there is no patch for 6.0 what do I do?

I don't use Adobe Elements, but it seems to me freeware programs like CutePDF (which acts like a printer driver, but saves as a PDF file) found here or PDF Creator found here might serve the same purpose.

And if you're really having a problem with Acrobat Reader, you might want to look into the FoxIt Reader found here.

All of the above are freeware for personal use.

Oops!
I found this on another forum and it sounds exactly like the fix for your missing .cab file:

Cannot find ZF561407.CAB
...Dell is using the Enterprise version to run the OEM installs of the Office 2003 product. So this cab will not exist on most Office CD sets.

If you download and run the msicuu2.exe installer cleanup utility (from
Microsoft), select only the Office product. This eliminates all the regkeys
for just the Office suite. Then reinstall Office from the packaged CD's. Takes a little time but eliminates the problem.

Here's link to the cleanup utility:

You mention reinstalling Office, so somewhere along the line I have to uninstall Office?

The cleanest way is probably to uninstall Office and then reinstall it from your CD. You could try to install 'on top' but that could cause further problems.

Having fun yet?
