The Windows 8.1 compatible drivers are on the Dell FTP Website but not on Drivers and Downloads:

I have the same laptop as you.. I was worried about something like this so I didn't update yet :emotion-6:. I've already had video issues just with 8 alone.

Do you think Dell will take back the laptop if it's still under warranty if they don't update the drivers? Because I've already been waiting for drivers that work with updated Intel drivers....the two seem to fight each other.

I tried several times even in compatibility mode but nothing works in final windows 8.1 release, while the AMD driver works to some extent in Windows 8.1 Preview release. Dell inspiron15R 5520 is on there Support List check here http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/19/KCS/KcsArticles/ArticleView?docid=575111 So Hopefully they will release new drivers soon.

If you have media to clean install Windows 8.1 then go for it. You may also see Windows Reinstallation Guide/A Clean Install of Windows 8.1:

http://philipyip.wordpress.com/dell-community-forums/

If you have a retail license see here to get Windows 8.1 installation media:

http://philipyip.wordpress.com/download-windows-8-1-iso/

If you have an OEM license (preinstalled Windows 8 by Dell) there is no legitmate source for you to download a Windows 8.1 and the above won't work.

I would be cautious of getting the download direct from Microsoft Store however as it has broke a lot of installs see for example this review:

http://www.forbes.com/sites/larrymagid/2013/10/17/windows-8-1-upgrade-not-working-after-3-attempts-on-2-machines/

Ensure that you have working recovery media.

I have preinstalled Windows 8 on my Dell laptop.

So just don't upgrade anything from Dell ever, got it.

I'm not saying don't update.

I'm just saying ensure you have got recovery media made before trying to as a few have problems with the update.

I'll have to buy some DVD-Rs than or a bigger flash drive I guess.

But you're saying I don't have a option to make a backup of the OS though.
