Any super users please help with recovery console oddity...

Using a Dell Dimension 4500 running XP Home, I inserted the recovery CD from Dell that loads the Recovery Console. It displayed all the welcome info correctly, however, the prompt reads simply C: , amd does not contain the windows directory. If I dir at the C: prompt, I get the cannot enumerate directory information message. Can I run chkdsk /r at that prompt to run the repair and then proceed with the rest of the repair process (fixboot, fixmbr)?

Thanks a lot!

Thanks! However, when the Recovery Console starts I get the welcome screen, but there is no numbered lists of OS's, and the prompt only says C:\

Am I in the Recovery Console at that point so that I can run the chkdsk /r option?

Thanks again!
