Audio Input type stuck on stereo/speaker

Hello, a few weeks ago I stopped receiving the prompt asking what kind of device was plugged in the audio jack. Now it seems to be stuck on speaker/stereo and creates a heavy echo when headphones are plugged in. I can not access the Realtek audio manager to change the type of input. I have tried reinstalling new drivers and nothing will work, please help!

PC Model and number??  Please include this on any initial problem post.

My first guess is the jack is damaged or stuck.  Many headphone jacks have an extra set of contacts for sensing and if those contacts are either stuck open or closed it could cause part of your problem.  Sadly most jacks are enclosed and the contacts can't be adjusted.  If this is what is happening, on a desktop it will require replacing the front panel audio I/O panel.  On a laptop, the jack is usually on a small separate "daughter" board and that board will have to be replaced.
