Aurora R10, Windows 11 Feedback

Hi,

Thought would start an Aurora R10 specific Windows 11 thread.

Have upgraded mine and so far working well. Not a lot of difference to be honest, but was fairly quick to do and started up ok.

I haven't updated to the latest firmware as a) I don't need anything in there and b) it looks plain broken in places.

Feel free to add any of your feedback below for others.

1. Good idea since Aurora-R10 apparently only came with AMD main-processors.

2. I'm all for NOT upgrading your BIOS unless there is a good reason, but what does that mean?

Have you tried the launch version of Windows 11 (rather than perhaps the betas?)

Right click on desktop/expolorer gives a New option and folders etc come out quickly with a mouse hover from there.  I wouldn't have even noticed that as an issue for someone really.

Middle task bar is growing on me quickly.  you can send it all back to left aligned really easily though if you want.  Right click task bar, task bar settings, select alignment under behaviours section.

Haven't noticed anything myself, but thanks for the info.  I'll keep a look out for future updates that hopefully resolve this issue.  Thanks.

Please press the blue Accept as Solution button below if this post answers your questions.

I absolutely hate the right click and then click again on show more options to do basic things like copy, paste, cut, delete, properties etc. Right Click on the taskbar no longer has task manager.  Default taskbar is centered not to the left with hide all icons another annoyance. Familiar options like Refresh or New (create folders) are entirely missing when you right-click on your desktop on Windows 11.

EDIT I found solution to one problem.

Revert to the File Explorer old look via Folder Explorer Options – This operation will essentially return File Explorer to the old interface look and feel. While this will also affect the context menu and get rid of the Show more options, it will also revert anything else back to the Windows 10 look.

  1. Open File Explorer by pressing Windows key + E.
  2. Once you’re inside File Explorer, use the ribbon menu at the top to click on the action button (three dots ) in the top-right corner of the screen.
  3.  From the context menu that just appeared, click on Options.
  4. Once you’re finally inside the Folder Options menu, select the View tab from the ribbon menu at the top.
  5. Next, scroll down through the options available inside Advanced settings and check the box associated with Launch folder options in a separate process.
  6. Click Apply to save the changes, then restart.

No Idea where the ISO tool is for 11.

The ISO tool for 10 is well known.

I see Microsoft have released a Windows 11 update for AMD CPUs
Currently only on the insider program release but feedback has been good.
I'll wait until it's released to all but it's good to see the improvement be addressed quickly.

Still no issues to report on my R10, so all good on Windows 11 for a few weeks now.

Two updates on the AMD side of things for Windows 11:

The latest chipset driver (version 3.10.08.506) should take care of the UEFI CPPC2 issue, which in some cases didn't "preferentially schedule threads on a processor’s fastest core,"
https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-ryzen-chipset-3-10-08-506

Microsoft is rolling out a software update tackling a bug that increased L3 cache latency. The issue impacted apps that need quick memory access, which in turn caused CPUs to slow down by up to 15 percent. The patch, Windows 11 update KB5006746, will be available starting today
