It's your monitor or display/video card software that would give that message. Check out any utility that came with them. Might have an icon in the right side of taskbar your can click on or look in Display properties.

Thanks for your reply. I'm no pro with the tech. stuff. I know where your telling me to look but don't know what I'm looking for in Display properties. No icon either, Am I dumb?? Question.. Will this cause other problems   or is it something that needs to be fixed?  I have Windows XP and was new in Feb. 05.  Thanks

This just started hapenning to me today ... especially when I am switching between a DOS and a Windows program. I don't know how to reset my monitor. I tried through Control Panel, but "Display" didn't have a way to do this. Any help would be appreciated. I'm also wondering if the other people, who posted about this, found an answer to the "problem." It doesn't affect anything, but is very annoying.

I posted this originally,  this happens to me in a power failure.  If you have a flat screen, right next to the on/off switch on the monitor is a button that has a + (plus).  Put your screen on like you are going to shut down --but don't shut down-- press that plus button and your auto adjust will come on and do some adjusting.  I had to do this 2 or 3 times the other day after a power failure to get it to go away.  Try that and see if it help.  Good luck

I have the same problem 'Auto adjust in progress'. I too had a power cut yesterday & this is the first time I've seen this message. I tried the + button but it still pops up when I've not been using the computer for a while or when I switch on. I popped into PC world today & he said to go into menu & look for Degauss - it might help if I could fine where Menu is!! HELP PLEASE!!!

I did a system restore a couple of times & the message seems to have disapeared. I hope that's the last I see of it.

15 November 2006:  "Auto Adsjust in Progress" appears when I shut down, and the computer seems to take forever to shut down. I have to pull the plug.  Googled the phrase and got the Dell threads.  Has anyone found a successful remedy?

My auto adjust always happened at LOG ON not shut down so don't know if this will work for you or not. Right click on desktop, Properties, settings, Advanced, & Monitor. Check to see if  screen refresh is set at 60 Hertz, if not, set it at 60 then hit apply and okay.  This happens to me with a power outage, I've found if it happens again and it's set at 60 I change it to 75 and it seems to fix it.  I have to alternate each time it happens.  Seems none of the other things that have worked in the past work anymore.  Hope this helps.
