autoexec.bat

When I boot my XP machine I get many messages in
userenv.log saying "ProcessAutoexec: Cannot process
autoexec.bat."

Using search I cannot find autoexec.bat on my machine even
with search system folders and hidden files and folders
enabled.

Being a novice, especially to XP, I don't know if I should
be worried about this or not.  Can anyone advise me?

You may have to remove tick from   "Hide protected operating system files" in "My Computer)  , Tools > Folder Options , View tab  to see file.
Then since to get message it may not exist , mine is  C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT    zero bytes.

You can also get  FREE Microsoft program TweakUI for XP+SP1  with option to disable "Parse autoexec.bat at Logon"  by installing , select  Logon & remove tick.
You can download FREE Microsoft program called TweakUI for XP+ SP1 from;
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

XP does not normally use autoexec.bat, but maybe it checks for it during boot, don't know. I do have an empty autoexec.bat file in C:\. You could just create it, see if the log message stops recurring. Just open Notepad,  don't type anything into the file, just click Save as, type the name "autoexec.bat" (the"" prevent Notepad from adding .txt), put it in C:\.

I don't have userenv.log, what is that?

Anyway, if XP works OK, I would not worry about it.
