Automatic file back up on MS Word
A shop reinstalled my Window 98 SE 1 year ago. But did not reinstall the original MS word 2000. Their newer version had an automatic pack up on all Microsoft Word documents. Because I told them I am writer. I reisntalled the whole thing again because of too many bugs. And lost their newer version of MS Word. I went back to see if they would sell me a newer version, since they did not give me a CD of the newer version when they installed it. Which only now do I realize they should have done. They tried to sell me a newer version of Word on a Microsoft Office CD, for $175. But it could not load on my Windows 98 SE because it is not current enough.
Then they offered to load it on my computer for free. Meaning whatever they do... if I have to reinstall it again, I will be forced to send it to the shop: instead of doing it myself... Yeah.... sure.
How much does MS Word cost? Are there older versions I can find on the Internet? Or do I have to buy it from a store? Or is the automatic backup for MS word documents an add-on program I can install onto my Word 2000?
I can't find anything on the tech support pages on Microosoft's home page about this. Heck. I can't even find Word 2000 on Microsoft's web pages. I fumble around and sometimes I'm lucky, and sometimes I'm barking up the wrong trees, or the wrong forest, or the wrong continent. I am trying to narrow down just what I should be looking for. Anyone have any ideas on this? Does anyone have an MS Word that automatically creates backup copies of whatever is written the moment you shut down a document?

Versions of Word as old as Word97 (which I have on my 98SE system) offered automatic backups of documents. On Word97 it is accessed through File|Save As|Options. If Word97 has it and Word 2002 (which is on my XP system) has it, I'm certain that it exists on Word 2000 as well. Go into Help and search on backup.
