Automatic System Recovery Backup Issues

Question

Have a fairly new Dell 8300.  I tried using the built-in Automatic System Recovery feature of the Windows XP Backup utility.  However, I get an error stating that the 'ASR system backup files could not be created.'  According to the Microsoft Knowledge Base, you get this message if you try to run ASR with the Win XP Home edition, which doesn't support this feature.  However, I get the message and I'm running Win XP Professional Edition. I've also been unable to create disk images using another disk imaging program.  I'm beginning to wonder if the problem is something unique to Dell computers.  Has anyone had success using the XP ASR backup routine?  Any suggestions?

I have Inspiron 1100 with DELL XP Pro but it doesn't have a Floppy.
It starts the ASR Backup by creating a file on my Data partition which I entered , then I cancelled as don't have Floppy.
So when do you get the message.?

I have installed a Virtual Floppy & the ASR Backup worked OK. It created a Backup file of 3.9GB on the Data partition & 200KB on the Virtual Floppy.

I get the message right after I click 'Finish.'  It will back up the files & folders on C:\  OK, but says it can't create the ASR recovery files. Thanks, anyway, for your feedback.
