I do but it keeps coming back to do again. I went to microsoft and got it there and executed it but auto update still keeps popping up for me to download it.

anybody know how to stop this, very frustrating. How many times do I have to download it

Disable or ignore.

If M$ bugs are so frustrating, switch to OS X.

Try turning Automatic Updates off, clean out your cache, reboot, then turn AU back on.  See if the message comes back.

hey guys

I tried what you advised and emptied the cache. When finished and turned on auto updates this update popped up immediately. I have also tried going direct to the online updates and downloaded the file and then executed it. no difference.

dont want to turn off auto updates. it seems as though I get no other updates until i load this one again.

According to Microsoft, the update is corrupted.  I had the same problem with my new XPS M1730 running XP Pro SP3.  I worked with Microsoft for 6 weeks. They managed to stop the "update" loop, but their "solution" ultimately crashed my system and I'm still trying to recover.

Dell technical support is now advising customers to turn off all automatic updates and NEVER install automatic updates.  I've never heard this before and have always had automatic updates turned on.  But after my recent experience, I won't do it again.  I'm not a tech-ie and I don't know enough to know which updates to install and which to ignore.  But I know I never want to go through this mess again.

Good luck!

You all need to Goggle the Web for problems like this. I found the following:

To fix the issue with installing KB898461 simply rename the file:

c:\windows\system32\spupdsvc.exe

to

c:\windows\system32\spupdsvc.old

and then try the update again either through Windows Update or from the
full installer which can be downloaded here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

It should now complete successfully and allow you to start getting
other updates as well.
