Availability of XP

Question

Does anyone have an idea about how long that XP will be available in Dell computers. I realize that they are shipping with Vista now, but I don't want to go anywhere near Vista...would have to buy a whole lot of new programs if it is not backwards compatible for some computer games that I have had around since ME days.

Microsoft controls that, not Dell. Around the end of this year is what I've read.

According to Microsoft the company will stop licensing Windows XP to OEMs and terminate retail sales of the operating system Jan. 31, 2008. The time between the general availability of XP's successor, Windows Vista, and that drop-dead date is just 12 months. (Computer World 4/2007)

Thanks for the info Mary. That time frame will allow me to get another new computer before the drop dead date.
