To move an Access data base for one machine to another, copy the database (.md?) files), form one machine to the another.

Windows XP backup is not compatible with earlier version of MS Backup. You will have to copy the raw database or import it rather than using backup.

Copy the Access files to a floppy and the take the floppy top the other PC.  If any single file is too big for a single floppy, "zip" the file to one or more floppies.

MSGATE,

How do I copy from one machine to the other, they are currently in different rooms. I was hoping to get rid of the old Dell Dimension V350 and use the new 4600. Does anyone, anywhere have a File converter to convert .qic files to .bkf files?

MSGATE,

There are more than 3000 records in the Database! That is why there is a compressable .qic file that allows them to all fit on a single floppy'

Why does Microsoft screw up a good thing when they have one?

As I see it, you have two choices 1 - Complain about Microsoft and not get the job done or 2 - zip them and move them.  There is one last possibility, If both PCs have e-mail access mail the files as attachments from the old machine and read and detach them on the new machine.  P.S. zip compresses the files also.

Two other alternatives:

Copy the W98 Backup exe and run it on the new PC to restore the files.

Move the HD to the new PC as a slave and copy from drive to drive.

Jim,

What do you think of the Dual Booting idea? The small() hard drive on my old Dimension V350 won't be missed on the 80GB Dimension 4600i.

MSGate,

I may have discovered a third possibility, complain like the Devil to Dell Tech Service and see what they suggest.

They suggested -

1. Some conversion programs to convert .qic files to .bkf files -

or

2. Dual Booting, with selection at boot time, between Windows XP or Windows 98.

Which would you suggest?
