Backup

What is the best way to backup everything?  That is, my hard drive, and all that is on it.  Sorry, but I am a novice.  Should I use a cd-rw disc?  Appreciate any advice!  CKH

Have you tried GHOST? It could saving you from reinstalling the system after it crashed. Have you an external hard driver? It is as available as CD-RW discs, anyone would do.

Well, it did not crash...I just want to back it up, just in case something happens.  There is a backup icon in the tray, but when I click it, and put a Zip disc in (which is what the instructions say), it won't work.  Thanks.

I have used Ghost and Drive Image in the past.  I would suggest Ghost.  I only used the restore feature once and it did work.  There is an issue that you should be aware of, Symantec the maker of Ghost has bought PowerQuest maker of Drive Image.  One product will probably die sometime soon.  I would not use CD/RWs on many PCS they are slower the CD-Rs.  CD-Rs cost so little, between nothing and $0.40, that would be the way to go.  One problem is CD-Rs are 700 mbytes each and disk are in the many gbyte size you will need many CD-Rs to do a full backup.  When I did backups to CD-Rs I had an 18 gbyte hard disk and it took about a dozend CD-Rs to do the backup.  Consider doing backups to DVD-Rs, 4.7 gbytes per disk.  I now do my backups on 4mm magnetic tape, which probably is not a good option for you, since the software and hardware of tape backup is $1,500.00
