Bernina Embroidery Software will not load - need help

Running Dell Dimension 8300 with Windows XP Professional. Trying to load Bernina Embroidery Software Version 4. When I click on "Install software" the disk drive runs for a minute or so then nothing happens. The Bernina help desk has thrown in the towel and said my PC must be at fault. The Bernina dealer has successfully loaded this software from my disk to her Dell PC. Yikes! What's going on here? Has anyone else run into this problem? I have disabled my McAfee firewall, virus protection and privacy protection software and have closed all but the essential applications - to no avail. I am open to suggestions. I have recently installed ServicePack 2 but the software wouldn't load before that either.

Can you load other software using a different CD?  Maybe yout CD or DVD drive is defective.  Does you PC even see the disk through Windows Explorer?

I have successfully loaded other programs (Photoshop, TurboTax and others) so I don't think it is the disk drive. I have a R/W drive too and have tried this CD in both. I can see the files listed on the CD from Start/Run/Browse but get the same activity when I try to get it load from Start.

Thanks so much for the speedy answer.

If you can use Explorer to view the files on the CD, copy them to a Temporary folder on the hard drive and install from there.

I'm not sure what is going on but embroidery software issues seem to come up relatively often, considering there isn't that many using embroidery software.  Everytime there is an issue the embroidery software vendors point fingers at someone else.

The first question, is the software Windows XP compatible? or even Windows compatible.   What Operating system does the store use on their Dell?  Finally, I doubt that it's related to the brand of PC, that's another finger pointing issue.

Fortunately my wife has an older Espree BabyLock embroidery machine that has it's own scanner and does not use a PC interface.

Well, you could use the compatibility feature to roll back the software to use in whichever version it would work under.

I've got a lot of older "Windows" software.  Some work without problems and some will not work at all.  If it won't run under the native XP mode, the software won't run under a compatibility mode.
