Bios upgrade issue on studio laptop - valid ROM image file
Hi guys,
I have a problem and I don't know how to get over this. I'm trying to update the BIOS from my Studio Laptop from A04 to A05 version. THe message i receive is:
"Error! The BIOS update could not be performed because a valid ROM image file could not be found". My operating system is Windows 7 RC1.
Did somebody have this problems ? How can i pass this problem.
Waiting for your responses...
Thanks in advance

Most likely it's because you have Windows 7. Do you still have the original Vista (or XP) installed? and if you do, boot to that OS and it will probably work.

Hi, thanks for your answer.
No, I do not have any OS installed and also I do not intend to install anymore anything else. It's awfull that Dell doesn't give you a tool to upgrade your BIOS from DOS or with all the support needed for all the OS.
Also, if somebody thinks that the problem will be something else, please share it with us.
Thanks again!

Ran into the same issue with my Dell Studio 1735 running Win7 Ultimate. Very annoying. IBM posts most upgrades as EXE and a bootable ISO. Dell, are you listening?

I managed the problem than. It didn't worked because the Windows 7(i had the 7100 RC version). Install Vista on another partition and try again to upgrade your BIOS. For me worked.
Good luck

You are the luckey one, atleast your laptop is alive with old version. Mine got killed when I was updating to A08 version from within Win7. The OS hanged when doing this and had forced me to restart the box. Now, I am desperately trying to recover the BIOS. I am not giving it up until I get it right back.

I realize this question is ten years old but someone else recently posted the same question. I was having the same issue and they were lucky because I may actually figure it out. it is now 2020 and Dell just put out a new bios update for this model this year. People who are running newer version if windows have trouble installing it because of all of the security features. What you want to do is right click on the bios update file then click properties. Then go to attributes and click "unblock". You should then be able to run the bios update. Good luck. Randall Scott Clemons
