Blinkx

I really don't know where to put this, so I put it in Windows XP, which is my operating system.

I downloaded and installed Blinkx, which is free, after reading an article about it on p 24 of the September 13, 2004 Business Week.

I guess it works OK, but it's funny: I don't see it in my Programs list; it's always in my Tray at the bottom right hand corner of my screen; and I can't see the program anywhere, including in my Add/Remove Programs area of the Control Panel.

Anyone know anything about this program?

It seems to be rather harmless although, it is still in beta.  Unless you have something amiss in your particular installation the program should appear in your Programs listing along with, a link to the uninstaller.  See the image in the link below to their "Help" site:

Thanks. I've looked and looked and it doesn't appear in my Programs list. I just looked in the Add/Remove section of my Control Panel and it DOES appear there now. Interesting. The program is an interesting idea, although except for it doing a web search I don't see it finding anything which makes sense either on my computer or elsewhere - and the web search is just a Google, which I could always do easily myself without a program.

I'd still like to get it off my Tray, along with Windows Messenger, but they both keep coming back at restart no matter what I do.

Thanks again.

The simple answer would be to uninstall them.  As far as BlinkX goes, from the information I gleaned in my search it must inherently run in the background to provide the functions for which it is designed...an idea which is not particularly appealing to me.  You can also uninstall Messenger from the "Add | Remove Windows Components" section within the "Add | Remove Programs" applet.

Thanks. I removed Blinkx and Creative Media Source, which insisted on putting their icon in my System Tray. I don't see Windows Messenger when I look into Add/Remove programs. Is it an integral part of IE or MS Outlook?

You will need to look in the Windows Components section...
