I would recommend that you insert your Windows XP CD. Restart computer. Press F12 while the Dell logo is still on the screen. Select the CD/DVD ROM as your boot device. If prompted to "Press any key to boot from CD" then do so.
At the Windows Setup screen, press R to enter the Recovery Console. Select the Windows installation (usually number 1) and enter the password (usually blank). At the command prompt, type
chkdsk /r to check and repair the NTFS file system. When chkdsk is done, remove the Window XP and type Exit to restart your computer. It should boot just fine.

Thats well and good but the problem i have is that my xp was pre loaded with my pc a demsion 3100 so i can't load a cd up to fix the problem any ideas?
