Blue screen error: Fatal system error
We have a Dell Dimension 4400 that is about three years old. We have had no issues with this unit until yesterday.
The computer is running Windows XP. Yesterday, when booting up the system, i received the following error message on a Blue Screen:
Stop: C000021a {fatal system error} The session manager initialization system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of oxc0000034 (ox00000000 ox00000000) The system has been shut down
I tried a power down, let the unit sit, and rebooted to the same message.
Have not installed any new programs or XP undates. Running Norton antivirus and ran a system scan and virus update prior to problem occuring, BUT unit booted several times over two or three days between this virus update and the blue screen of death coming up.
Any suggestions on cause and possible fix? Thanks!
Sue

Most likely a non-Microsoft software problem, eg GoBack, NAV, ?
If you can boot to Safe Mode you could uninstall GoBack, if you have it, and see if that helps. If that doesn't help or apply to you, you could 'try' uninstalling NAV. Good luck.
If GoBack doesn't apply/fix it I'd run the System File Checker (from Safe Mode). Also check your Device Manager well in Safe Mode. To run SFC the command, from Start/Run is:
sfc /scannow (note space)

According to
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316503
you can't uninstall goback in safe mode, but it gives a procedure to disable it instead.
