blue screen error msg. and roxio
I've already looked at the "Fixing Blue Screen Error Messages in Microsoft® Windows® XP" support, but it has not assisted me. Basically, my problem is that I got a blue screen message. I did as the instructions indicated:
1. Started again in "safe mode"
2. Sent error report and got response that the cause was Roxio's UDF reader.
3. I uninstalled/deleted ALL of Roxio.
4. I then restarted the computer and STILL got blue screen. I got back in and sent error report again. it said it was STILL the roxio udf reader. I searched my hard drives for the exact file name (I think it was udfreadr.sys) and it said NO RESULTS!!! I searched for anything roxio, no results!
So why do I still get the blue screen? I've deleted the software file that was creating the problem, but it STILL says it's there.
Please help me!
I have a dimesnsion b110
Thank you in advance

What version of Roxio were you using? With Windows XP if you have (had) the original Roxio Basic, V5 that came with many Dell's and you upgraded the XP to SP2 you MUST install the Roxio update for V5 Basic or there are incompatibities.
Also, the UDF reader was never needed in XP unless you had some CD's created with Direct CD from an older Version 3 or 4 of Roxio.
HERE is the instructions from Roxio on uninstalling V5. It involves editing the Registry. They used to have a program, roxizap.exe that would automatically do what the Roxio instructions have you do, but it's no longer available and I couldn't find it doing a google search.
After you have everything removed per Roxio's instructions, restart Windows and you can again have Roxio V5 Basic installed and working. (1) Install Roxio V5 Basic that came with the Dell but DO NOT run the program. (2) download and install the V5 BASIC update from www.roxio.com restart the PC again and now you should have a working copy of Roxio V5 BASIC that will not cause Blue Screens. If you still have Blue Screens is is a different problem, not a Roxio problem.

thx for your reply!
I don't have the CD anymore, I can't remember the version. I got my B110 in May 2006, so whatever version came with that. Also, I don't want to reinstall it since I never used it. Do I still need to edit the registry? The directions http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/EEZ000182?set-locale=en note to rename a lot of file extentions, however it seems to be in prep for reinstalling, which i don't want. I just want the blue screen to go away.
I forgot to mention in the previous post, I already deleted the Adaptec files.
thanks!

Since you are still getting the error, you most likely will have to rid the PC entirely of Roxio. I found a copy of the roxizap.exe. Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll and attach it to an e-mail to you, the file is only 40KB. If you can get into regular Windows long enough to run it that is the best place. If not, try starting Windows in safe mode and then run it (F8 at boot up will give you a boot option menu and select Safe Mode).
