Blue screen: STOP: 0X00000044 - what does it mean & whats the solution please

Hi

I've had my Dell inspiron6400 freeze up on me, it gone to a blue screen "windows shut down to prevent damage".....
Tech info is xxxstop: 0X00000044 (0X8504CB78, 0X00000D62, 0X00000000 0X00000000)

I've looked at a few other threads/messages but the tch info was different.
I'm running wINDOWS XP
I'm not sure what the solution is here, to stop my laptop continuosly jumping to this blue screen / windows shutdown.
Please HELP

Cheers

Hi!

What were you doing when you got the error?

This particular error code is more common in windows 2000 than windows xp, but it's usually a hardware driver issue.

Does the problem happen when you are in safe mode?

Have you recently added/removed/changed any hardware or software?

Hi,

thanks for the tips, I'll give it a try, I'm actually waiting to hear from Dell.

Its always happened when I'm out of the room, usually the computer is just down loading from the web, with no other applications running
