blue screen while trying to boot up in safe mode

I have been trying to boot up in safe mode for about a week now ( it's been so long I can't remember why I wanted to )  Anyhow I keep getting a blue screen with a stop code of 0x0000007e (0xc0000005,0x876799d,0xf8b06c84,0xf8b06984)  I am running XP Home on a DELL Dimenson 2100 and have had no problem for the last two years when I had to open in safe mode.  A couple of weeks ago I got a remote keyboard and mouse, but did not like the response, and went back to the old units.  I removed the software from when I installed them.  I also got a Belkin 2.0 USB hub that XP wouldn't reconise, so I took it off and set it aside for now.  These are the only things that I have done in the last few months although it's been probably 6 months or more since I needed to go into safe mode.  ANY IDEAS?

PS:  I tried DELL support they suggested I try System file checker which relpaces all system files  (did not work)  They also said try system restore (did not work) next they suggest a full OS system overwrite (I haven't tried this yet because they wouldn't answer my other question  which is if I do a full system overwrite will I have reinstall all my other software for my other programs)?

You could try an XP "Repair", which is similar to reinstalling XP (it's an option when you boot with the XP installation CD).  Repair is supposed to repair any bad files or replace any that are missing.
