Blue Screen

I'v got a blue screen and i can't get out!! 

 

It says:

 A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

 

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

 

etc. etc.

 

the Technical Information line says:

***STOP: 0x000000ED (0x8658E9F0, 0xC0000001, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

 

I tried restarting the computer normally, using last known good configuration and in safe mode, all to no avail.  I even tried to reinstall the operating system from the disc but there's no acknowledgement that its even in the drive, i just keep getting the blue screen and the black startup options screen alternately when i reboot.

 

HELP!!
