Blue Screen

I am running Windows XP Professional on a Dell Dimension 8400. The factory installed C drive is 80Gb, and I installed an additional internal 1TB drive about 2 years ago. The operating system and program files are on the C drive. The F drive is data only. It’s all worked fine until recently and now I am getting the following blue screen periodically:

I force quit using the power button on the tower and when it reboots I submit the Windows Error Report. Then I get this message:

Your RAID controller is missing a driver.
To solve this problem, follow these steps:
                                                       1. Click to download the driver from the Intel website
                                                       http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...+RST)&lang=eng
                                                       2. Click Download for the multi-language driver or the appropriate language-specific driver if one is listed.
                                                       3. Read the license agreement, and then click Accept if you accept the terms and conditions.
                                                       4. Next to Download, click the link to download the driver.
                                                       5. Click Run or Open.
                                                       6. Follow the steps in the installation wizard.
                                                       About your RAID controller
The model name of your RAID controller is Intel Matrix Storage Manager (iaStor.sys).

The Intel link is broken, but I reported the broken link and received this link from them:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...adType=Drivers

I tried to install the driver using the 2nd Intel link and get the error message:
This computer does not meet the minimum requirement for installing the software.
I've been trying to figure out what triggers the blue screen. So far, I've been able to determine that it will crash every time I try to run Dell Diagnostics, from the website.  Is this really a driver issue or is my hard drive going bad?  Can someone help me fix this?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Try booting to your XP CD and repairing using Recovery Console, then run CHKDSK /R.

I don't know how to do this, so I started looking for info and found this:

"We recommend that you use the Recovery Console only after Safe mode and other startup options do not work. The Recovery Console is recommended only if you are an advanced user who can use basic commands to identify and locate problem drivers and files."  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307654

I only WISH I was an advance user, but since I'm not, I am wondering if I am up to the task--and also whether or not this is a good step to take at this point since the computer starts without any problem (I am able to boot without safe mode) and the BSOD happens infrequently.  Is there a way to trouble shoot using the Stop error? Or if anyone knows what is triggering the blue screen?

If you are able to boot to Windows (I missed the fact that you were able to), then CHKDSK /R can be initiated from within Windows:  Open a Command Prompt (Start, Programs, Accessories), type in CHKDSK /R and Enter, then hit 'Y' to schedule, then reboot.

Then from a Command Prompt again, type in SFC /SCANNOW ... you will need your XP CD in the drive for this step.

You may also want to consider updating any out of date drivers, removing any internal cards or external devices, and/or uninstalling any software/hardware you recently added that may correlate with the bluescreens.
