BOOTMGR missing

Please help!!! I have a dimension 4600 series desktop and the hard drive crashed. I bought a new harddrive and installed it, set to boot from CD to install OP system and all i get is "BOOTMGR missing press ctl alt del to reboot" over and over again. Its annoying. Can anyone help?

It is not booting to the CD.  BOOTMGR missing is when it tries to boot to the drive with no operating system on it.

Check the BIOS to make sure that the CDROM is ON AND listed in the boot order (preferably above hard drive).  OR, you can press F12 for the boot menu and select to boot from CD.

If it still isn't booting from the CD:

  • Boot to another bootable CD on your Dimension, to make sure your CDROM drive is working.
  • Boot to your operating system CD on another computer, to make sure that CD works.
