Browser not responding after Standby...

i recently switched from dial up to ADSL. i really like this ADSL except for one thing that really bugs the hay out of me. whenever i get done browsing the internet, i always use to put my pc in Standby Mode. never had any problem with this until i switched to  ADSL. now whenever i do that, my internet would not appear. so i have to restart my pc. i've gone around this by completely shutting off my pc whenever i get done, but it hassle since it takes a while. did i forget to switch something when i switch to ADSL?

If you're running a desktop system, you're finding out that many desktops don't handle power management as well as laptops. Suspending desktop systems frequently results in problems like the one you're seeing.

You might check to see if the drivers for your Ethernet adapter are current. Laptops tend to handle suspend operations without problems. What model system do you have?

OK...not a laptop. What you're seeing is very common to desktop systems. Spinning the hard drive down after a period of inactivity works, invoking power saving mode on displays works, but suspending rarely works correctly.

i'm paranoid about security... so i guess i have to turn it off all the time, huh? btw, would this have any implications, turning the pc off and on more frequent than usual?

There's no increased security risk if you have a software firewall or external router installed. You'll get various opinions on the wisdom of shutting desktop systems off. Mine is that the monitor should be shut off, but not the system. Since the fans will be running all the time, it's a good idea to check the case interior for dust buildup every six or twelve months.
