Buying a computer

I don't even know if this topic is in the right section or not, but here goes: When buying a new computer, how often should a user upgrade to the next best thing? I've had my computer since 2003 and this is now 2006.

Looks as if you got the Dimension 2350 system.   If you only do the basic stuff, like e-mail, internet, online banking, or Microsoft word stuff, than your system should last you a while longer.  Its when the programs that you us or want to purchase that bog down, or won't work at all, would it be the time to get another system.  Got my Dim 4400 system in June 2002, and is still good for what I do with it.  If you want to play games at a high level of settings, than your system is way over due for a new one, and I mean a system without that integrated video chip you are probably running with.

A new chip is coming out in late July, and should run cooler, and faster than the current  cpu's, so if you want another system, wait a short time, and get a new one with the newer technology.  Your 2350 has the pci slot, and older technology, and is going by way of the dinosaur.  Hope this helped a little.

Dim 4400
2.6 Ghz 400 FSB
1 Gb 2100 DDR memory
Windows XP SP-2
17 inch 1703 FP monitor
XFX 7800 GS O/C AGP
48x CDRW
16x DVD-R
410 watt ( PcPower&Cooling )
