Can I delete these files and folder?
Hello,
I have a new Dimension 8400 with Windows XP Pro. The files below are on my new Dell, but not on any other PCs. Can I safely delete them to recover disk space?
c:\INFCACHE.1 (5KB)
c:\mmjb.DDF (179KB)
c:\SystemInfo.ini (1KB)
c:\I386\ (1GB)
c:\mmjb.DDF (179KB)
c:\SystemInfo.ini (1KB)
c:\I386\ (1GB)
Thank you,
Don

I don't know what the first three folders are but they are too small to be significant. If you wish to save the 1GB used by the I386 folder you can delete it but make sure that your registry does not point to it as the source of system files. Open the registry editor (Start|Run, enter regedit and click OK) and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup and if the value for SourcePath is C:\ change it to the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive.

Hi Denny,
Thank you for the fast reply. I'll check the Registry.
Thank you,
Don

I don't think you would want to delete the I386 directory.
I think it is the OEM backup files for your PC.

INFCACHE.1 related to USB drivers for something maybe from Canon, Zoom, UMAX...
MMJB.DDF is MusicMatch Jukebox file.
SYSTEMINFO.INI holds Dell service tag number for your machine.
\I386 holds protected copies of Windows system files that System File Checker uses to restore damaged system files, though it will use the CD if it can't find what it needs in \I386. I'd hold onto it, if there's ever a situation where you need to recover a system file and the CD can't be accessed.
