Can i delete windows.old?

I assume i can delete windows.old since it's just the old OS,but i'm not sure if Vista uses anything in there. While i wait for an answer i'll see if i can transfer my old files in my documents to the appropriate Vista folders. Thanks for the help.

Because of it's a upgrade installation, you got your old Windows in a folder called Windows.old, you can delete it if you no more would like to uninstall your Windows Vista Rc2 and go back to your old Windows.

Ok,thanks.I'll just transfer some of my old files from my documents folder and the desktop over to the appropriate vista folders and test them to make sure they work, then delete windows.old.

Where is the windows.old folder? I noticed my hard drive was 15 gigs fuller but didn't know why after I upgraded. Thanks.

just click on start menu->computer>local disk(c:).You'll see it.get your old files you want back before deleting, unless you already saved them to dvd or usb flash drive or whatever.

A very bad idea. The Windows Old folder is there for a purpose. Leave it alone, at least for a while. It's the way to return to XP, plus has files you might need. Read this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927522/en-us

I'm not sure what I'm missing but I definitely did an upgrade installation (not clean) and there's no windows.old on the root directory or any other one. The is a Windows directory on the root but I'm assuming that's Vista related. Is it possible the installation process deleted windows.old after it had completed its setup sequence?

I did an installation of Home Premiun over RC1. I thought it was a clean install and was under the impression it just renamed your old install to windows.old. I have left that folder alone for now but will delete it when I need the space as its 10 gig.
