Can not boot the XP CD

Hello. I have a big problem, im trying to get rid of vista by formating and installing Windows XP. So i insert the disk, restart the computer, press F12 to bring up the boot menu and select to boot from the cd, but i only get this error

"Selected boot device not avaliable press F1 to try again or F2 to enter setup"

I have made shure that the Xp-cd is working i tested it on another computer wich it booted just fine on, but not on this computer. I have a Dimension 9200. Anyway i dont know how im going to get the booting to work? So im hoping that someone here might can help.

Thanks very much!

Make sure that your optical drive is detected in the bios. Go there and change the boot order to see if it detects it that way. If you want XP to use with Vista, give Virtual PC 2007 a try. I use it at work all the time. I run Vista Enterprise with a VM of Windows XP Pro. Works great.

Can you see the drive in Device Manager? There have been several posts  about optical drives "disappearing" in Vista.

Vista is going to replace XP someday. Why not learn how to fix it and take care of it now so you are ready? Just a suggestion.

I don't know what the fuss is with some people. I have Vista on 3 computers. My work PC has Enterprise and 2 PCs at home have Business. The only issues I have had was when I tried to install an older version of Alcohol 120 and my Dell 962 printer. Bother were worked out. Other than that, no problems. I use it all day long at work.

The drive may be detected in the BIOS, but you didn't answer whether or not it appears in Device Manager?

OK. Will the drive play other CD's or DVD's? If so, then I'm not sure what to advise. I have seen a few other posts in the forums where a drive will play DVD's but will NOT play CD's (the WinXP disk is a CD).

Have you tried booting from a Cold Boot (rather than from a restart)? Grasping at straws here, but I've seen more than one instance where a bootable CD will not boot from a restart, but it will boot if you power down and then power up again.

Nope didnt work, pressed F12 to get to the boot meu selected Boot from onboard or USB drive and still get the message "Selected boot device not avaliable press F1 to try again or F2 to enter setup"

This is the most wierd error i have ever gotten :S

I tryed a Xindows XP Home edition recovery disk i got with a previous computer from dell, that one booted and i get into the install windows xp, but when i get there i get no alternitives to select to format the disk or anything, insted its trying to start Windows XP Home up, wich i dont even have or have had installed on this computer, so what i get after a minute or two's loading time is a bluscreen and the computer shuts down.
