Cannot add new printer / Printer stopped working

Question

My problem is that I am no longer able to print from my desktop computer. When I try to print a webpage, I get en error that says 'Operation could not be completed.' If I try to print a word document, only a blank page will spit out. The funny thing is that I can still scan stuff to my computer. Also, if I try to add a new printer the error message 'Operation could not be completed' appears.   The desktop computer is a XPS Dimension 200/5150C running windows XP SP3. The Printer is a Dell Photo 964. I do not think that the printer is the problem. I am still able to print fine from my laptop through the home network. (The printer is attached to the desktop via USB)   This problem occurred a few days after SP3 was installed. I have tried to do a system restore back to when I could print, but this did not solve anything. I would really appreciate any help.   Thanks

Have you tried reinstalling your printer's drivers?

Yes, I reinstalled the driver for the printer. I forgot to mention that in the first post. I also made sure the print spooler service was set to automatic. I just really don't want to reinstall or repair windows to fix this problem, but i think i might have to. Message Edited by TKE_248 on 10-01-2008 01:08 PM

Well I'm wondering if it was sp3. if it was when you reinstall or repair, it will erase sp3  and you will have to reinstall it again.
