Cannot connect to internet after XP reinstall
After some serious viral/malware hijacking on XPS desktop, I decided to reformat C and do a clean install of XP. Have configured for cable modem and router connections, but cannot get an internet connection. Bypassed router and hard connected modem to network port; no change. Connection working fine, as I am using laptop to post this and have successfully connected both wirelessly and with hard LAN. Interesting Note: I was trying to connect to download the installation disc for Linksys Wireless G router, as it continues to crash while trying to reinstall.
Any experience with this issue? Am I forgettting something?

Did you install the network driver?
You should install your chipset driver first then network, video, audio drivers and all other drivers.

But in the correct order? The chipset driver must be installed before the others. Try going to device manager and see if anything is yellow-flagged, indicating a driver issue. Full instructions for installing drivers is located here:

You may wish to download the latest drivers from this site, located under support tools, lower left corner, then Drivers & Downloads.
