Cannot Delete Outlook Express Inbox Messages

Start with something simple:   If that account has a "Deleted Items" folder, empty it.  Then follow the instructions below under "Compact OE folders".   If you're lucky it's just a problem with insufficient space.  

Also try simply moving the email to another folder you create, then deleting it from there.

However, Outlook Express is notorious for having problems like this, especially if files or folders get too large.  It simply wasn't designed for lots of big emails with pictures, animations, attachments and whatnot.    

1)  Create a backup of all your emails if you haven't already.

2)  Follow PaBear's instructions below on how to clear out corrupted folders.  If you want, try only "Deleted Items" and see if that does it.  If not, then it's likely the Inbox that's having problems.  Note that you will lose all the mail in the folders you delete, so do be sure all mail is moved or copied into new folders and/or backed up somewhere else    Good tips as well on how to avoid problems:

3) Seriously consider switching to a new email client, like Windows Live Mail, which is much more reliable.  Microsoft stopped supporting Outlook Express years ago, so there's no hope of it being "updated" to fix problems like this.
