what isp are you using? i have used many different isp's, but i never used the "setup wizzard" to set them up.. the software for the various isp's usually walks you through setting up the account.. (in one case, with one isp, i did (have to) manually setup a "connectoid", but still, not using the "setup wizzard".. actually, i setup a connectoid in two cases, one for msn.. )
win xp's "internet connection firewall" is not compatible with AOL, so, if you use aol, you will need to use a different firewall with it.. there is a free version of mcafee firewall offered through aol; i use the kerio 2.15 firewall:
you should download a firewall and save it to disks (i use floppy disks) so that you can install it before reconnecting to the internet after doing a clean reinstall of win xp et al (if you ever do a clean reinstall of win xp et al)..
i use "gsplit" to split the kerio 2.15 firewall installation program onto two floppy disks..
if the mcafee firewall does not work out for you, try using the kerio 2.15.. it is pretty simple to use (imo), but it takes (or, it can take) some triail-and-error when "creating" the rules..

here is the link for the free mcafee firewall offered through AOL.. i found it by "exploring" AOL's "keywords", looking for "safety & security" :
