Ruppert G,

The link below indicates the error is obscure and I too could not find anything...you may want to try the suggestion of reformatting again but its your call since we do not know how it will turn out....

I started to get the same message on my computer after I installed a product from Micro Solutions, backback CD-rewriter. I traced it to a program that starts at startup bpudfmon.exe. When I prevent the program from starting up at the start up of Windows 98 the problem goes away.

After doing some digging, I found out that you can get bpudffsd.vxd as part of a download for Micro Solutions products. The program that you need to download is bpudf208.exe at ftp://ftp.micro.solutions.com/software/backpack/speedycd/bpudf208.exe
This download is for Windows 95, 98 and Me only.

Thanks, that really helped.

By the way, that should be a hyphen between micro and solutions in that FTP link (for those who may come across this thread for help with the same thing).
