If you are running XP or ME you can go back to a restore point before your Add/remove programs was messed up. I had to do this recently on my wife's machine. Her add/remove programs was 1/6th the number of entries t should have been and some that were there didn't offer the remove option. Going two weeks back only required two Microsoft updates to get the machine current and add/remove programs was totally recovered.
I went back and determined what caused each restore point to help decide which one to pick and what would be lost by using it.
See if replacing damaged system files (as it sounds like appwiz.cpl is damaged) with System File Checker resolves your problem. Go to Start|Run, type
sfc /scannow and click OK. You may be prompted to insert your Windows XP Reinstallation CD.
Thank you for your input and help also. I tried that too, and nothing happened. I finally broke down and called Dell. After three hours and lots of headaches trying to understand the girl at Dell, everything is fine now. I had to use the reinstallation disc after all.
Many thanks to all and I hope this problem doesn't happen to too many others. Dell says it's a Microsoft problem, I just wish I knew what caused it. Oh well, on to bigger and better things!!

Yes, I'm running Windows XP Home Edition. The system restore did not work. Any other suggestions?
Thanks for your help, though.
