Cannot Open Control Panel in XP

The other day I formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP.  But once I had it installed, I was unable to open the control panel.  I noticed that in device manager, under "other devices", there were two things that did not have drivers intsalled.  These were:  USB Controller and USB Device Driver.  I have searched on the device driver cd, but was unable to find USB drivers for my system. The only USB driver that is has, is not compatible with my system.  Could this cause the control panel not to open?  If anyone could help me, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thanks.

According to the device driver cd, I have installed all drivers that are for my system.  And I am still not able to open control panel.

viper82,

Did you reinstall the chipset drivers for your system? They're listed here, along with all the other Dell-supplied XP drivers for the Inspiron 3000. I'm not sure that this would cause the control panel problem you described, though.

Hi, you said that you just reinstalled windows xp and that there's still yellow question marks on USB, actually you have to install the chipsets driver first before installing any drivers, On the device driver cd, even when the items do have check marks beside it, you still have to reinstall it. Start with the chipset driver, video, audio, network. and see also under controller drivers is you have a USB update, if you do have, install it.:smileywink:

Thanks for all the help.  I am able to open my control panel now.  I had to take my video card out and reinstall windows again.  Once I had it installed, then all the drivers.  I put the card back in and everything is working just fine now.  Once again, thanks for all the suggestions.
