Cannot print on networked printer

Question

I have networked two computers via a router.  One computer, an HP 1000y with Windows XP, has an HP 5650 printer connected, which works fine from that computer.  The other computer is a Dell Dimension 4100 with Windows 2000.  I can print a printer test page on the HP 5650 printer from the Dell computer, which indicates, according to HP tech support, that there is no problem with the printer.  However, when I try to print a Microsoft Word or Notepad document on the HP 5650 printer from the Dell computer, I immediately get a window with the title, 'Microsoft Visual C++ runtime Library,' with the message, 'Runtime Error!  Program C:\Program files\Microsoft Office\Office\WINWORD,EXE     Abnormal program termination'  When I click on OK, the Word or Notepad screen closes.  Since an HP printer is involved, I contacted HP tech support, who informed me that the problem is with the Microsoft software, not the printer because the printer test page prints OK from the Dell computer.  Because the Windows operating system was factory installed by Dell, Microsoft tech support referred me to Dell. Can anyone help me with this problem?

I'm ashamed to say that the computer to which the printer was connected was off.  To solve the problem I turned it on.

The part that caught my eye is where you must install additional printer drivers (meant for sharing) with any other networked computer using another operating system. There are several other links available there that may help also.
