Thanks Steve. I took your lead and focused on McAfee. I disabled the spamkiller and now it works. You don't know how many hours I've been messing with this.

I appreciate your responses!

Thanks a mil!

Hello Steve. I'm running McAfee. This is eating my lunch.

Are you running antivirus software that is set to scan email?  If so, it may be changing the POP3 server address so that it can do the scan.  Which antivirus software are you running?

I have exactly the same problem on my Dimension 9150 (same as XPS400).  Every time I reboot, the incoming mail address gets changed, but only on my administrator account.  Other accounts everything works fine.  To get around this, I made myself another account and that's where I'll do email.  I tried disabling Spamkiller, but the problem didn't go away - still seems to load Spamkiller in the background even though it's disabled.  I think I will just uninstall McAfee altogether, as I still have subscription left on Norton Antivirus on my old computer - just move it across to the new machine.  If I uninstall McAfee with the Add/Remove programs, is that sufficient, or is there a trick?  Also, you mentioned uninstalling McAfee and then reinstalling.  How can you do that without the CD, since Dell doesn't send any?  Thanks in advance.

I suggest that you call Dell and ask them politely to send all the CDs necessary to restore your computer in case of a hard disk crash.  They will argue that your system has PC Restore on it that will restore you computer to the as-shipped conditions, but you must argue that this will do no good if you need to reinstall Windows and application software in the case of a hard drive crash.

Thanks, I'll do that.  What about the uninstall of McAfee?  Anything special or tricky?
