Cannot uninstall preinstalled Mcafee from Vista.. :-(

Hi there!
Dell ships the PC, even if I've choosen no security software, with an 30 Day trial of McAfee!! :-(
The PC runs with Vista Ultimate

Now I want tho remove it, because I don't need it and have my own Internet Security software. I go to system, software, uninstall....and there I'm unable to install! It starts but then gives an error message that I cannot uninstall (and yes I'm logged on as an administrator).
Has anybody had similliar experiences? I didn't want to go the hard way and erase it from the registry manually....
And I didn't install it at all and it isn't activated either. I want to use my Kaspersky.... I just wan't to remove this useless piece of software....suggestions and ideas are much appreciated!

Is it running in the background, pop up at startup? if it does, go to msconfig, turn it off in your startup options, reboot, and then uninstall it, if that doesn't work, try it in safe mode, McAfee is very difficult to remove, and yes i agree with you, I don't know who would want it!!!

Try downloading McAfee's removal tool:

Norton also has a removal tool on its website.

These programs seem to claw their way into your computer and can be difficult to remove.
