In starting PC, I receive the following error message that Dell Product Support determined to be a software problem. I need to know what I should do to fix this problem with Windows XP.
Blue Screen
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you’ve seen this stop error screen restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow thee steps:
Run a system diagnostic utility supplied by your hardware manufacturer. In particular run a memory check and a check for faulty or mismatched memory. Try changing video adapters.
Disable or remove any newly installed hardware and drivers. Disable or remove any newly installed software. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components restart your computer press F8 to select Advanced Startup options and then select safe mode.
Technical Information: *** STOP: 0x0000007F
Hard Drive tested and Passed.
Any suggestions, procedures or links would be helpful.

The message seems pretty specific. Tells you to test memory. Tells you to disable or remove new hardware or drivers, or new software.
I am also having this problem on a Dell Inspiron 8100 and would be interested on any information that anyone provides. In I come across something I will post it. thanks
If I had done that then I wouldn't be at this forum waiting for idiotic questions. The motherboad has been replaced and it has new memory and cpu but I am still getting error messages.
I may not be as sharp as others on the forum. When I went into safe mode it would not let me remove iTunes which was the most recent software download. Can't seem to get past this blue screen. Any procedure on how to test memory?
In speaking with Dell Support, they indicated that something was wrong with the Windows XP based on the hardware tests that we performed.
I am able to load Win2k without any problems but when it comes to XP I get the error messages as soon as it gets to "Starting Windows" message. I have run the Advisor on Win2k and the message says that there is nothing in the system that is not compatible with XP.

I presume you've tried reverting to a System Restore point before you installed Itunes? If so, what happened?
