Cant Bootup On Windows XP

Question

I restored Windows XP home to my Dimension 9150 PC and when I tried to reboot I got an error message:   'Windows could not restart because the following file is missing or corrupt 'Windows root>\system 32\hal.dll   Please, please, please can any tell me how to get the information required to correct this problem.   Is there an article in the DELL knowledge base?

Not sure what kind of restore you did.... Dell PC Restore or a complete reinstall of XP...    But you might try inserting your Windows reinstall CD and perform a repair of XP. Perhaps there might be a missing and/or corrupt file and the repair could correct it. Worth a shot, anyways...

Hello,   Open the case and check that all the power and ribbon cables are well pushed in   Check in the BIOS that the drive is recognised   Check if it will boot up now.   If not, try the Restore again   If none of the above help you will need a full XP installation CD to fix this ( not a Restore CD)
