Can't copy and paste

I am using Windows XP Professional in a Dell 4600 computer. In some programs, I can copy (right click and choose "copy")some material, but then I am unable to paste the material into another program or web page, unless I hit Ctrl-V. The paste choice is not available when I right click on the area I want to paste to. Why is the paste function sometimes not available when I right click, and how do I turn it on?
Thanks.
Richard

I think that is by design.

It happens especially in dialog boxes where you are ased to type in your email address, password, etc. I find. I know in FrontPage the hyperlinks dialog box does not accept a right-click & paste, but CTRL + V works.

Thanks for your response. I can't paste when I try to copy and paste messages - just text with no address etc. For me, it seems to be more than just the criteria you mentioned.

If you could be more specific, I might be able to better understand your problem. Can you give a particular instance that I can try on my PC?

Thanks!

Thanks for supplying the link as an example. I do have the right-click option in IE, Richard.

Can you tell me which browser & version # you are using?

Hi James,
Please go to this CompuServe forum and try copying and pasting in the body of a new message. When you right click in the body of the message to paste something, such as from another document, (such as from Word Pad or Word), the "paste" choice does not appear in the menu. You do not have to be a Compuserve member to post a message in this forum. If you have an Instant Messenger or AOL name and password, they will work to login.

Thanks.

Hi again Jim,
I should have mentioned the browser in an earlier post. Sorry. I am using Netscape 7.1. You gave me a good lead. I tried to paste the same copy material three times in a row. It worked with IE and this message but did not work in the Compuserve forum. So you helped me with a little detective work on narrowing the problem. At this point, I guess I should check with the CompuServe people in their forums to find out why the problem occurs there. Seems odd that the problem is so selective.
Thanks again.
Richard

Yes, in Netscape 7.2 I do not have the "paste" option either. I have to use Ctrl + V to paste.

Using the paste icon in the message window gives me a javascript alert that "my security settings do not allow the action".
