Change the properties of the file or folder by right clicking on it, choosing Properties, unchecking Read Only, then delete--hold down the Shift key with delete will permanently delete it. Make sure the file in the folder is not running. If that doesn't work, reboot into Safe Mode and try it again. If that doesn't work, I would suspect a virus. Do not install Vista until you solve this problem.

That doesn't work either. Tried command prompts that I found but states it can't find file to delete.
It apparently will allow me to delete all files in the directory which I will try next and do an immediate repair, as it appears I will have to format and reinstall if it doesn't work anyway.:smileymad:

Using a fileshare program assumes that you share a directory as well. Is that directory shared from which you cannot delete the file? Try to stop the share program and the internet connection and see if you can delete the file.

I actually uninstalled the program. I also copied everything in the system folder around the infected folder, but anything trying to open that folder just shuts down explorer.:smileyindifferent:

Use something else to delete it. Try, for example, Far Manager. Is a console program which is similar to Explorer.

What are the properties of that directory? Who has rights there?

Can't touch it to open it to view properties. It's just a shared folder created by the p2p I deleted. Just has some vids in it I don't need. I didn't realize it was a system directory I had it in or I could delete the whole directory folder. I have the rights there, as me or Admin. Will try Far Manager. Thanks:smileyhappy:

If you can't touch it it means there is a program (or service) running, which prevents this. You have to identify this program, stop it and then you can delete that directory.

What are the programs which are started any time you start the computer or log in?

I have several things running according to ny task manager, half of which I have no idea what they are. I have tried deleting this in safe mode, where very little should be running, and still it won't delete. Also Unlocker won't function.:smileyindifferent:
