Can’t delete some files in Windows Explorer

Hello,

I have a Dell Inspiron 9100 Laptop XP.  During the last few weeks, many files in Windows Explorer can not be deleted by the normal procedure of “selection + Delete button + OK”.  I get an error message which says:

“Error deleting File or Folder – Cannot delete SA458b~1.jpg: Cannot find the specified file.  Make sure you specify the correct path and file name.”

When trying to delete different groups of files in different folders, a different file will be specified but the result is the same & the message is exactly the same.  This prevents the entire group of files from being deleted.

Also, I have checked the “Attributes” of my files & they are NOT marked for Read-Only, & the Advanced Attributes box says “File is ready for archiving”.

Try renaming the folder that contains the file or try the fix suggested by hubbafixx: http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=sw_winxp&message.id=42275&query.id=26876#M42275

Thanks, it worked! (the folder had to be renamed twice to make it work).

I have forgotten what little I knew re DOS.  After loading DOS & entering the path to the problem folder & pressing Enter, I only get an error message.  ????
